Recirculation
Recirculation is the share of pageviews that come from internal links. Where the metric appears, how to read the target per vertical, and what raises it.
Updated on
Recirculation is the percentage of pageviews that originate from internal links on the site. The definition is in the subtitle of the Audience card: "Percentual de pageviews com origem em links internos, por vertical." (percentage of pageviews originating from internal links, per vertical). A reader who opens a second page raises recirculation; a reader who leaves after the first page does not.
Where the metric appears
| Screen | Scope |
|---|---|
| Realtime, Recirculação (recirculation) metric | The whole site, right now |
| Article details, Recirculação metric | One article |
| Audience, Recirculação por secção editorial (recirculation by editorial section) card | Each vertical, over the selected date range, against the target |
The Audience card is the only place in the dashboard with an explicit target. A dashed line labeled meta 22% (target 22%) crosses the bars, on a scale from 0 to 40%. Verticals whose bar passes the line are above the target. The spelling "secção" is the screen's own.
What makes recirculation rise
Recirculation depends on the reader finding a next step when they finish reading: links in the body of the text, related articles, and promos for other pages. Pulse identifies articles with high reading time and a high exit rate through the Bridge strategy, described in Pulse strategies.
